THE CONSULTATION

Our initial studio/on-site consult is to learn as much as we can about your wishes – and needs – and about the site itself. We then provide a report and recommendation, which might include a rough schematic. We can advise you if you need a more detailed design process and plan, and a cost and time estimate for this. The cost of the initial consultation will be deducted from any resulting design fees later. We can tailor a design package or service to suit your budget and needs.

THE PROPOSAL

Once we have as much information as possible, we write a proposal to clarify the brief and detail the scope of work and associated fees to design your garden or landscape. This is the basis of all further work. The proposal is not the landscape design; it lets you know what steps we will go through in the design process. With timelines and costing outlined, we then move into the design phase.

STAGE I : SCHEMATIC DESIGN (CONCEPT DESIGN)

Upon engagement, we will request any existing architectural or survey plans for the site, which we will use as the base of our design. If these existing plans are not available a qualified surveyor may need to be engaged which will cost extra charges.
After the initial consultation, we will supply you with a design proposal outlining how we can assist you with your landscape design. This will outline the scope of works and fees involved. Our landscape concept packages will show you our vision for the space consisting of Sketchy layouts, sections, elevations, concept imagery.

STAGE II : DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

A stage where the initial concept is developed to provide the client with a greater understanding of the design. This is the stage when KOVA starts to develop their ideas in more detail to ensure that the concept design is achievable and will meet the client needs. At this stage, the designer also determines if there are any major issues (topographic, access, services, drainage, and budget) as the design evolves and allied disciplines start to investigate and design their own design with greater details.
Often clients see the initial concept but don’t fully understand that it is a concept and there needs to be further design undertaken to resolve the concept and ensure it is viable (financially, construct-ability, etc.)
Design Development package contains colored plans, sections, material palettes with notation about materials, colors, heights and more.

STAGE III : DESIGN APPROVAL

Your project may be exempt from development approvals for which you will move directly onto the next stage however if you require a Complying Development Certificate (CDC) or a Development Application (DA) to go in with your local council KOVA will be able to provide you all the necessary documentation required This will include liaising with engineers and other consultants to work out the most effective way to get your project built and out of the ground.

STAGE IV : CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTATION

During this stage, KOVA STUDIO develops documents including plans, sections, construction details, quantities and a specification for landscape construction companies to be price and build the project. This stage often requires coordination with other consultants to reduce the possibility for construction issues and to allow for resolution of overlapping design elements (architecture, landscape, lighting, engineering, etc.) which will cost more charges if needed.

STAGE V : CONSTRUCTION

During this stage, KOVA STUDIO will coordinate with the client and different contractors to get the Installation quotation and the construction done. Reducing the price with the most efficient materials is KOVA’s biggest concern.
